Mobilität, Transport, Verkehr

Many speak indifferently of mobility without understanding its importance and complexity. Yet MOBILITY is among the highest-ranked commodities we could ever hope for! Therefore, I want to shed some light on the differences and dependencies of the three words you should know: traffic, transport and mobility! Here is my slogan: "Mobility is a right -> Transport is a choice -> Traffic is the result".

LEt us start with a simple explanation:

Example of traffic: When you drive your car to the supermarket and get stuck in congestion (a "traffic jam") it is because many others decided to also be in a car on the same road simultaneously. You might find the delay annoying but, as a popular saying goes: "You are not stuck in traffic, you are traffic".

Example of transport: Had you chosen to ride your bike to the supermarket, or had taken any other means of transport, you most certainly would not have been in that traffic jam.

Example of mobility: your choice of transport of course depends on the modes of transport available to you; your choice of supermarket depends on the products you want to buy, and the route there depends on the infrastructure
